Search to continue for missing Puna man
Big Island fire rescue crews are scheduled to resume searching today for a 27-year-old Puna man who has been missing since he jumped off a cliff for a swim about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.The man was last seen drifting with the current off the Puna coast, U.S. Coast Guard officials said. Puna fire Capt. Darren Rosario said the man had been drinking with a group of friends at MacKenzie State Recreation Area and told them he was going for a swim.
Rescues crews searched early Wednesday and yesterday. The Coast Guard suspended its search yesterday pending further developments.
Man who allegedly buried baby is missing
A state judge issued a bench warrant yesterday for the man who allegedly buried his newborn child in Kauai's remote Kalalau Valley over the weekend.David Tucker, 34, is charged with concealing the corpse of an infant, a misdemeanor. He failed to appear in Kauai District Court yesterday to set a trial date.
Kauai police suspended their search for the infant's body Wednesday and are now looking for a male hiker who may have assisted Tucker and the infant's mother, who was eight months pregnant when she made the 11-mile Kalalau trail hike Saturday. The hiker is believed to have written an "SOS" on the beach that led to the couple's rescue Sunday.
Rescuers were told the baby was stillborn.

Male suspect sought in Kaimuki bank robbery
Police want help finding a man who robbed the Kaimuki branch of Territorial Savings at 1108 12th Ave. yesterday.
At 10 a.m. the suspect entered the bank, walked to a teller and demanded money, police said.
The suspect is described as in his mid-30s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, 200 pounds, with a medium build and wavy blond hair. He was wearing sunglasses, a white New York Yankees baseball cap, a white Dodgers baseball T-shirt, bluejeans and white athletic shoes.

St. Louis freshman charged in shooting
A St. Louis School freshman was arrested and charged with third-degree assault Tuesday for allegedly shooting a fellow ninth-grader with a pellet gun near the school.Police were sent to the canal behind a St. Louis Drive address about 2:30 p.m. after a report that a boy was shooting at other students with an air rifle. The victim, 13, suffered injury to his forearm. The suspect, 14, turned himself in to police at the school.

Man in girlfriend's home holds off police
A 26-year-old Wahiawa man, who refused to follow a temporary restraining order barring him from his girlfriend's home, held police at bay for nearly nine hours, police said.The standoff ended peacefully about 2:25 a.m. today when officers from the Specialized Services Division entered the home and arrested Jordon Balcita, police said. Balcita was charged with violating the restraining order. He is held in lieu of $2,000.
No one was injured although police had to evacuate residents in eight nearby homes.
Police said Balcita refused to leave the Kaliponi Street home after he was served the restraining order. His girlfriend summoned police, and when officers arrived, Balcita brandished a knife and told the officers they would have to kill him.
Possible assault of 2-year-old investigated
Police opened an assault investigation after a 2-year-old boy suffered injuries last Friday at his Mililani home. The boy's mother said she took him to Wahiawa General Hospital after she fell down some stairs while holding him, police said. The boy was later transferred to Kapiolani Medical Center, where doctors called police.

4 men are injured as motorcycle hits car
Four men were injured -- one critically -- after a motorcycle crossed the centerline on Kamehameha Highway and collided head on with a car near Kokololio Beach in Hauula about 10:55 last night.Police said the motorcycle passenger, 21, was in critical condition at Queen's Medical Center this morning. The motorcycle driver, 22, was in fair condition at Queen's.
The driver of the car, 25, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. His passenger, 21, was taken to Kahuku Hospital where he was treated and released.
Police said all four men are students at Brigham Young University-Hawaii in Laie.
