HAWAIIAN MUSIC WEEKEND
Thanks, EDDIE!: Eddie Kamae (third from left) and the Sons of Hawaii (Pekelo Cosma, left, and Claybourne "Bradda Smitty" Smith) played a free show for the kids and the community at Kapolei Middle School on Friday. Among the highlights of the Sons' set was Kamae singing "E Ku'u Morning Dew" -- a local favorite ever since he wrote it in the Georgette Stevens emceed the "Ohana Night" program.
240 Years of music: Lyle Ritz, left, Benny Chong, center, and Byron Yasui were joined by 94-year old ukulele legend Bill Tapia, seated, in a landmark jam session at the First Annual Ukulele Exhibition and Conference at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort on Saturday. All three of the "young guys" watched closely as Tapia played "Stars And Stripes Forever." Yasui said the quartet represents 240 years of ukulele playing.
GREAT SHOW, KEOLA!: Keola Beamer, right, his mother Nona, seated, and his wife, Manoalani, relaxed with Honolulu Pops Conductor Matt Catingub after a beautiful performance with the Pops at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Friday. Nona opened the Beamer evening with a chant. Manoalani danced and played percussion. Keola capped a great set with "Honolulu City Lights" and "Hawaii Aloha."
