Koa Ridge proposal

Star-Bulletin staff

A public hearing on the proposed Koa Ridge development near Mililani and Waiawa will be held tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Waikele Elementary School Cafeteria.

Councilmember Gary Okino and the Honolulu City Council's Planning Committee is holding the hearing to gather comments from residents and other interested parties and present information on Bill 26, the proposed Central Oahu Sustainable Communities Plan.

Castle & Cooke Homes would need an exemption from the plan to complete its proposed Koa Ridge project on nearly 1,250 acres. Most of the land was once used to grow pineapple.

Koa Ridge represents Castle & Cooke's home-building plan for the next 40 years and is divided into three segments: Koa Ridge Makai, Koa Ridge Mauka and Waiawa.

The proposal for the Koa Ridge Makai project also includes a medical complex.

The Sierra Club and the Mililani Neighborhood Board have expressed concerns over traffic and the urbanization of the area.
