The Hawaii women's basketball team received national letters of intent from four high school players yesterday, the first day of the fall signing period.

Committing to the Rainbow Wahine were center Brittany Grice of Redondo (Calif.) Union, forward Amber Lee from McKinley, wing Pam Tambini from Piedmont Hills in San Jose, Calif., and guard Dalia Solia from Kaimuki.

Hawaii coach Vince Goo says the 6-foot-4 Grice is like a left-handed Christen Roper, the current Rainbow Wahine center.

"Brittany is a bit further along at this point than Christen was when she was in high school," said Goo. "Then again, it is unproven how well she will do at the college level. Christen has proven herself over the last three years."

Grice has led her team to three league and three California Interscholastic Federation titles. She averaged seven points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots a game last year.

"Amber Lee is the best '4' player coming out of the state this year," said Goo. "She is a legitimate Division I talent."

The 6-1 Lee was the Oahu Interscholastic Association East Division player of the year last season. She averaged 18 points and nine rebounds per game.

Tambini, at 5-10, is a versatile player who will give the UH coaches some options.

"Pam definitely is an off-guard, but she has the ball-handling skills to play the point," Goo said.

Solia, an OIA East all-star last year, averaged almost 17 points per game for the Bulldogs.

"With the four recruits we signed, we have filled our needs for next year," said Goo, who added it is possible he might still look for another post player.

He has three scholarships remaining.
