B-Boy reunion pays
respects to hip-hop

TAKING IT back to the old school: True hip-hop heads know that there's more to the lifestyle than two turntables and a microphone. This weekend respects will be paid to one of the original elements of hip-hop, namely the B-Boy.

Head out to the Pearl City High School Cafeteria from 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow night and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday for the "B-Boy Reunion 2002," presented by Lord One Productions. Regional contest winners from the mainland and around the Pacific Rim will converge on the 808 state to determine who the best B-Boys, graffiti artists, turntablists and emcees are. Saturday's schedule also features a hip-hop fashion show, mixing clinics, panel discussions and a vendor marketplace.

Among the scheduled entertainers for this weekend's reunion: Creed Cameleon, Eyesoulated Mindz, Gideon's Army, Mykelob, No Masterbacks and Trace. Tickets for the "B-Boy Reunion 2002" are $10 presale, $15 at the door. Bring two canned goods for the Hawaii Foodbank and receive a $3 discount. Check out www.bboyreunion.com for more info ...

IF THEY WERE in town, I'm sure the Nocturnal Sound Krew would be out representing in Pearl City tomorrow night. Instead, DJs Compose, Deception, Jami and Solution have packed their bags and secured passports for a flight to Europe. The NSK will travel to Germany to defend their team title at the ITF World Championships this weekend. Best of luck, guys ...

OUT ON the Windward side, Jaron's continues to be the place for live entertainment on the weekends. Besides, you've got to love a band with the word "booty" in it, right? Tonight's entertainment at Jaron's is Booty Karma, a rock/funk/blues/reggae group that takes the stage at 9 p.m.

For you nightcrawlers that can't make it to Kailua tonight, Jaron's keeps the quality pretty high all weekend long. Tomorrow night's band is Ooklah the Moc, and Slightly Stoopid will play Saturday night. Party people 21 and over are welcome on Friday and Saturday after 10:30 p.m.; call 261-4600 for details ...

AND ALMOST a year after closing down following a kitchen fire, the always-popular Eggs 'n Things in Waikiki is open for business once again. While late night hours are limited to Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for the time being, I still can't wait to roll up at four in the morning for some pancakes ...
