Planetary scientist will discuss
search for life in cosmos

Tobias C. Owen, University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy planetary scientist, will discuss "The Search for Life in the Universe" in a free public lecture at 7:30 tonight at Hemenway Theater, UH-Manoa campus.

This is the latest "Frontiers of Astronomy Community Lecture" presented by the Institute for Astronomy and the Friends of Hawaii Astronomy.

Owen co-authored a book on the subject of his lecture. He investigates the origin and evolution of planetary and satellite atmospheres; solar system exploration; the spectroscopy of planets, satellites and comets; and the origin and cosmic distribution of life. He has received many awards, including the NASA Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement and a Vernadsky Lectureship from the former Soviet Academy of Sciences. He has participated in the Viking Mars Landing and Voyager and Galileo probe projects.
