Tesia LaBoy, a sixth-grader at St. Andrew's Priory, got up close and personal with five gallons of water tossed on her while she was in the splash cage at the annual Queen Emma Festival at the Priory.

MARINE CORPS CELEBRATES 227TH BIRTHDAY

CRAIG T. KOJIMA / CKOJIMA@STARBULLETIN.COM The Marine Corps celebrates its 227th birthday today. The corps was created Nov. 10, 1775, before the United States declared independence. Massachusetts militias fought the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 15, 1775, and the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. The Second Continental Congress created a two-ship Navy on Oct. 13, 1775, followed by "two battalions of Marines" on Nov. 10. Independence wasn't declared until eight months later. Marine Corps Base Hawaii celebrated the birthday by holding a historical uniform pageant Friday. Above, Alvin Johnson portrayed a Spanish-American War Marine. PUNAHOU FINDS OUT HOW TO SNOOZE IN SPACE

NANAKULI HONORS VETERANS
