UH water polo team to take on Warriors

The Hawaii men's volleyball team will play the UH women's water polo team tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

The water polo scrimmage is a fund-raiser for the Warriors' trip to China in two weeks.

"It'll be fun," senior Eyal Zimet said. "There will be freshmen in speedos. It should be interesting."

Rosa to defend lead at Kauai Raceway Park

Jim Rosa will put his 220-point lead on the line in the Pro Elapsed Time division of the Garden Island Racing Association's final regular season event tomorrow at Kauai Raceway Park 6 p.m.

Wayne Costa trails Rosa with 395 points to Rosa's 615. Riley Takayama leads Jay R. Smith by 100 points in Super Street ET and Matt Pancho leads Bill Winningham by just 40 points in Street ET.

Division II top performers

Susy Garbelotti, Hawaii Pacific volleyball: Garbelotti earned PacWest Player of the Week honors for the second time this season for her performance in a win over Chaminade. The senior from Foz Do Iguaca, Brazil, knocked down 38 kills on 91 attempts while adding 14 digs. Only three other players have had more kills in one Division II match this year.

Keith Dow, Brigham Young-Hawaii water polo: The sophomore diver from La Verne, Calif., scored three hat tricks in the four Hawaiian Water Polo Challenge games last weekend. Dow teamed up with Stu Johnson to prevent the Seasiders' opponents from bottling up Vanja Kalabic, who used the freedom to score 14 goals in the four games.

Michael Kim, Hawaii-Hilo golf: The junior who aspires to be a professional golfer came out of nowhere to finish 10th at the Hawaii Fall Classic this week. Kim shot a 219 over three days to finish 3-over-par at the Links at Turtle Bay. He shot a 75 on the first day, 73 on the second and a 71 on the third.
