Program about ‘discovery’
named after Punahou grad

The first "Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery" will be held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at Punahou School.

The free educational program is open to all public and private school students grades 6 through 12. It will provide 18 science and technology workshops and 10 displays featuring robotics, fuel cells, LED technologies, Mauna Kea and other topics.

Keynote speakers are Nainoa Thompson of the Polynesian Voyaging Society and Karen Meech of the Institute for Astronomy.

The event pays tribute to Veach, a Punahou graduate and veteran of two space shuttle flights.

Applications are available by calling the Hawaii Space Grant Consortium office at 956-3138 or by going online to www.spacegrant.hawaii.edu/Day-of-discovery.

Pre-registration is required.

The program is sponsored by Hawaiian Electric Co., Punahou School, the Hawaii Space Grant Consortium in cooperation with the Hawaii Science Teachers Association, the NASA Amass Research Center and the Polynesian Voyaging Society.
