On the Scene

By John Berger

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Genoa Keawe celebrated her 84th birthday with three of her children -- from left, Gary, Miriam and Eric -- at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort on Thursday. Genoa sang "Alika" around 7 and from then on entertainment was provided by a parade of talent that included Violet "JR" Lilikoi, Ainsley Halemanu, Kealoha Kalama, Xtreme 104.3's Mento Mele, and Keith Haugen.

JUST DUCKY: Choregrapher Cathy Foy congratulated cast members, from left, Michael Pae'kukui, Michael Hanuna and Kevin W. Yamada, during the opening night party for Manoa Valley Theatre's production of "Honk!" on Wednesday. Hanuna is great as the ugly duckling. Yamada gives a career-best performance as the hungry cat.

LIFE'S A BEACH: Aston ResortQuest president Kelvin Boom, front, and Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel general manager Steve Townsend (standing with lei), relaxed with Don Tiki and the Don Tiki Dancers during the invitational "Beach Ball" that started a three-day celebration of the hotel's official re-opening on Friday. Great party, guys! Don Tiki plays the Hawaiian Hut this Saturday.
