Mental exam ordered in resort bomb threat

A 36-year-old Puako man was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation after he was charged Thursday with one count each of first- and second-degree terroristic threatening in a bomb threat incident at the Mauna Lani Resort on Oct. 22.

Police said Chet Wooley entered a restaurant at the hotel, told an employee he had a bomb in a duffel bag he was carrying and then ran out of the hotel, leaving the bag in the lobby.

A hotel employee took the bag to a safe location away from the hotel.

A military bomb team from Oahu was brought in to check the bag, which did not have any explosives.

Police find dead woman with noose around neck

Police are awaiting results of an autopsy tomorrow to determine the cause of death of a 64-year-old Pacific Heights woman who was found with a noose around her neck.

Police homicide Lt. Bill Kato said the woman was found lying fully clothed on the bathroom floor of her home. But the other end of the noose around her neck was not tied to anything, nor did it appear it could have come untied.

The case was classified as a "suspicious unattended death."

Kato said the woman lived at the 2516 Kekuanoni St. with her 87-year-old bedridden mother, who suffers from dementia. The victim had no known medical problems, he said.
