Animal group wants
isle pets to say cheese
for fund-raiser
For the 12th year, the Hawaiian Humane Society is sponsoring its "Pictures with Santa Paws" fund-raiser for families and their pets to pose with Santa today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
No appointment is necessary. For $20, pet owners will receive four prints and four negatives in one pose about a week later.
Stan Wright, a professional photographer known for his portraits of animals and people, is again donating his time to the fund-raiser. Fujifilm Hawaii is also donating the film and processing.
The Humane Society's McInerny Dog Park at 2700 Waialae Ave. will provide a tropical backdrop for the photos. Colorful pet dress-up accessories will be available. To ensure your pet's safety and comfort, bring them in a carrier or on a leash.

Leads sought in killing of 3 animals in Makaha
CrimeStoppers is offering a $100 reward for any information that will lead to the person or persons who killed two kittens and a dog last weekend.All three animals were found Sunday morning hung from a tree branch at Lahilahi Beach Park in Makaha. The Hawaiian Humane Society is investigating this case of animal cruelty in conjunction with the Honolulu Police Department.
"We urge anyone who has information about this horrible crime to call the Hawaiian Humane Society (946-2187, ext. 211) or Animal CrimeStoppers (955-8300)." said Pamela Burns, president of the Humane Society.

Man robs McCully Bank of Hawaii branch
Honolulu police are investigating the robbery of the Bank of Hawaii branch located in the McCully Star Market yesterday afternoon. Police said a man entered the bank, showed a demand note asking for money, received an undisclosed amount of cash, then fled on foot at about 3:40 p.m. No weapon was seen. Police are not releasing a description of the suspect at this time.
Moiliili man nabbed in failed purse-snatching
A 22-year-old Moiliili man was arrested Thursday for robbery and kidnapping after a failed purse-snatching attempt.Police said a 43-year-old woman was walking along Keeaumoku Street just before 9 p.m. when the suspect grabbed her from behind and dragged her into a parking lot.
The woman suffered cuts to both hands when the suspect tried to steal her handbag. Police said the suspect fled but was spotted by a passing police officer and caught.
Man suspect sought in theft of Rolex watch
CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a man who stole a Rolex watch valued at $22,150 in September.
Police said the suspect entered the Ben Bridge Timeworks store located at Ala Moana Center at 7:45 p.m. Sept. 30, grabbed the watch from the display counter and ran out of the store.
The suspect is described as in his late 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 140 pounds, has a slim build, black hair, is clean cut and has "protruding ears," according to police. He was last seen wearing a light-colored sports jacket and dark sports pants.

Tourist who died in motorcycle crash ID'd
Police have identified a 54-year-old tourist who died Thursday afternoon after his motorcycle went into a lava field in the Kaupulehu area of the Kona district.Police said Daniel Robbins of Wasilla, Alaska, was riding a rented 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) near the 16-mile marker when he ran off the right shoulder and into a lava field and was thrown from the bike. He was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Traffic Enforcement Unit officers are continuing an investigation into the crash and plan an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The victim was not wearing a helmet.
Clogged sewer line overflows on Maui
WAILUKU >> Lint and laundry debris clogged a sewer line near Kolu Street in Wailuku and caused about 300 gallons of waste water to spill out of a sewer manhole yesterday morning, Maui officials said.The spill was stopped at 7:20 a.m., about 20 minutes after it started, and confined to a culvert with no sewage entering the ocean, officials said.
2 people assault and rob hitchhiker
Big Island police are seeking two suspects who allegedly assaulted a 21-year-old male tourist who was hitchhiking in the early morning hours after having been at a Kailua-Kona nightclub.Police said that on Aug. 18 the victim caught a ride with a group of juveniles along Alii Drive. The suspects took the victim to an area near the White Sands Beach Park where they assaulted him and took his cash, jewelry, wristwatch and cell phone. He was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was treated for a broken nose, fractured eye socket and concussion.
Police said the suspects taking part in the attack are described as being a local male, about 17 to 19 years of age, and a man about 5 feet 10 to 6 feet tall with short hair worn "twisted and sticking up all over his head." The suspect vehicle was described as a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.
