Patrick Aiu: Doctor served on Hokule'a voyages



Eric Shigemi Asato, 47, of Pepeekeo, Hawaii, a seed-treating plant worker for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., died Monday at home. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by fiancee Laurie Kiyota, mother Yoshino, brother Richard and sisters Caroline S. Yamasaki and Sharon S. Sakamoto. Services: 5 p.m. Monday at Dodo Mortuary in Hilo. Timotio "Carlos" Caban Jr., 67, of Sunnyvale, Calif., died Oct. 18. He is also survived by son Keith. Additional information was needed for an obituary published yesterday.

Conrad "Sugar" Negrone Caravalho, 82, of Honolulu, a retired cable car operator in San Francisco and a semiprofessional boxer, died Oct. 22 in Kaiser Medical Center. He was born in Hawi, Hawaii. He is survived by son William; daughters Mary, Sandy and Chris "C.Marie"; and four grandchildren. Mass: 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann Catholic Church. Joseph "Joe" Castillo, 65, of Waimanalo, a retired Freeman Guards Inc. security guard, died Oct. 20 in Waimanalo. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by brothers Johnny and Henry; and sisters Rosaline Wolfe, Francesca Matthey, Hope Martin, Leonora "Lee" Balino and Margaret "Marge" Mildrun. Bruce Lowell Chinn, 45, of Los Altos, Calif., a Roche Bioscience programmer analyst, died Monday. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by wife Susan Grimes; sons Brandon and Ian; daughter Amy; mother Esther; brothers Alan, Douglas and Brian; and sister Diane. Services to be held in California.

Douglas T. Conol, also known as "Butch" and "Kaleo," 59, of Mountain View, Hawaii, a U.S. Army medical corpsman veteran and an Army Air Force Exhange Service sales associate, died Oct. 24 in Hilo Medical Center. The mortuary provided additional information for an obituary published Wednesday.

Galen Christopher Cordeiro, 25, of Wailuku, died Tuesday in St. Francis Medical Center. He was born in Wailuku. He is survived by mother Priscilla Yadao; brother Michael W.; sister Desiree-Ann; and grandparents Virginia Yadao and Herbert and Irene Cordeiro. Chul Bong Kim, 86, of Honolulu, a retired supermarket owner, died Monday in Maluhia Hospital. He was born in Korea. He is survived by wife Pok Kum; sons Seong H. and Seong M.; daughters Ui S. Hong and Min C. and Terry Kim; and 15 grandchildren. Services: 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Mu Ryang Sa Buddhist Temple. Burial: 1 p.m. Monday at Valley of the Temples.

Helen Hanayo Kishaba, 67, of Wailuku, died Tuesday at home. She was born in Wailuku. She is survived by sisters Doris Takahashi and Thelma Sakaida, and brothers James and George. Services: 4 p.m. Monday at Nakamura Mortuary. Reception to follow. Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Maui Memorial Park.

Charles Tadaichi Kusuno, 76, of Honolulu, a retired cable maintenance supervisor for the former General Telephone Electronic, died Tuesday. He was born in Makawao. He is survived by wife Elsie, daughters Debra Nishida and Collete Brede, sisters Mildred Anzai and Patsy Handa, and four grandchildren. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mililani Downtown Mortuary. Leonard Wood Lover Sr., 76, of Kailua, a retired carpenter for the federal government, died Oct. 24 in Wahiawa. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by sons Leonard Jr. and Patrick Lover, daughter Rachel Bonasera, brothers Peter Chun and Napoleon Awo, sister Regina Silver, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Yoko Yamauchi, 77, of Honolulu, a retired Queen's Medical Center dietitian, died Oct. 23. She was born in Seattle. She is survived by husband Louis, son John, daughter Kathryn, brothers Kazuo and Takeshi Tada, sisters Norma Heen and Carol Moriguchi, and two grandchildren. Services: 6 p.m. Wednesday at Diamond Head Mortuary. Casual attire. No flowers.

Setsuyo Yokoyama, 83, of Waipahu, died Oct. 18. She was born in Kekaha, Kauai. She is survived by brother Jiro. Private services.
