On the Scene
"LADY FINGERS" AND FRIENDS: Gary Aiko, left, stopped by the Kamehameha Schools Chapel on Sunday to enjoy the music as cameras rolled for an upcoming documentary on the life of jazz pianist Betty Loo Taylor (aka "Lady Fingers"). Jimmy Borges, who worked with Taylor for years at Trappers, added his vocal magic to several numbers during the free concert. Watch for an upcoming album by Taylor and Aiko as well.
IT'S GREAT ACTING: Norman M. Mùnoz congratulated Mariko Neubauer on her powerful portrayal of an abused woman in "Crave" at Ernst Lab Theatre on Saturday. Neubauer says that after doing improv, one-on-one and full nudity, conventional theater will seem easy.
SWAPPIN' ALBUMS: Jake Shimabukuro and Jennifer Perri traded copies of their latest albums during Shimabukuro's post-concert party at Chai's Island Bistro Sunday. His first U.S. album, "Sunday Morning," was released on the 22nd; her first Japanese album, "Jennifer," was released on the 23rd. Party guests got a special treat when Shimabukuro's mother, Carol, joined him and his brother, Bruce, for the final song of the evening.
