NEW ON CD
Christina getting Dirrty
with album releaseThere's quite a number of major releases coming out today, including:
>> "Stripped," Christina Aguilera: Looks like the Latina's going for that street/urban R&B sound if the album's lead single/video "Dirrty" is any indication. Anyway, the album's co-produced by Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette, No Doubt), so the former teen popster can't be straying too much from her previous sound.
>> "Scarlet's Walk," Tori Amos: After last year's cover album "Strange Little Girls," the singer/songwriter reportedly has turned her focus on the U.S., with topics ranging from Native American history to Andrew Jackson to Prince (?), with a strong 9/11 resonance throughout.
>> "A Love Supreme (Deluxe Edition)," John Coltrane: The classic jazz album is upgraded to a two-CD set to coincide with a Viking book about the making of the signature album. The new set is augmented with a remastering from a second-generation master tape, three unreleased alternates and the official debut of a much-bootlegged 1965 French radio broadcast that contained the only live performance of the spiritual suite.
>> The Nirvana greatest hits CD will be released today, instead of the originally scheduled Nov. 12 date. After much court wrangling between Kurt Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, and band members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, plus spurred on by the leaked radioplay of "You Know You're Right" (originally recorded in late January of 1994), this CD is the first of three projects documenting the seminal Seattle band's career. (A video is up next early next year, with a box set in 2004.)
The "new" track kicks off the album. The band's fan Web site reports that all significant tracks from their albums are represented, including remastered versions of "About A Girl," "Been A Son" and "Sliver" from their Sub Pop debut "Bleach," as well as informative liner notes from Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke.
