In The Mix

JASON GENEGABUS

Good scares are in the air

LOTS TO DO this week if you're feeling the Halloween spirit and today I'll share a few options worth checking out during the week. In my Thursday column, I'll let you know about all the spook-tacular parties going down that night.

Remember Ultrazone over at the Ilikai Hotel? The lasertag joint is still open, but from 6 p.m. to midnight today through Thursday, the place turns into the "House of Madness." Keep It Reel Productions created 10 scenes that aren't for the faint of heart, promising something "Hawaii has never experienced."

Tickets for the "House of Madness" are $7 presale and $10 at the door. Call 973-9936 for info ...

Over at Windward Mall, "The Scare Factory" is open to all ages through Nov. 3 on the upper level near the movie theaters. This haunted house is a bit more affordable: $6 for adults, $4 for keiki ages 5 to 12 and free for those 4 and under. Laucinda Lucyiano and Matt Medeiros organized the event, which also serves as a benefit for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Call 239-1956 ...

And after a three-year hiatus, the "Shockhouse" is back with a vengeance, this time at Aloha Tower Marketplace. The Tom Moffatt Productions haunted house, which occupied 8,000 square feet of space at the Ala Moana Shopping Center back in 1999, is currently residing on Aloha Tower's second floor mauka lanai (near Kapono's) and is open from 6 p.m. to midnight through tomorrow and 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Halloween.

Admission to "Shockhouse," which features costumes and makeup from Act One Theater Design, is $6.50 for all ages. Keiki under 6 years old are free. Call 593-8333 or 566-2337...

If all this talk about Halloween isn't your idea of a good time, there's always Goldfinger tomorrow night at World Cafe. Brian Arthur, Kelly Lemieux, Darren Pfeiffer and frontman John Feldmann return to Honolulu for the second time this year after releasing the album "Open Your Eyes" back in May.

After playing shows last week in Japan, Goldfinger plans to relax for a couple of weeks after tomorrow's show before heading to Europe for shows in Scotland and England. Tickets are still available for $17.50 at all Tower Records, Cheapo Video and Foodland locations, as well as the UH Campus Center. Call 599-4450 or 526-4400 to order tickets by phone ...
