for Wolves

Moani Mundo, a junior from Castle and Western Oregon's goalkeeper, has been in on seven shutouts, three solo, for the 10-4-1 Wolves who lead the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 7-2-1 record. She is second in the league with a 1.10 goals against average.

Mundo was the GNAC defensive player of the week (Sept. 23-29). She allowed just two goals and had 14 saves as the Wolves won two of three matches, including a 2-1 decision over previously unbeaten and nationally ranked UC Davis.

Erin Ota, a sophomore midfielder from Maryknoll, has started all 15 matches for the Wolves. She has scored a goal and assisted on two others.

Shaye Anderson, a senior goalkeeper from Parker playing for Western Washington (7-7-1), is third in the conference with a 1.18 goals allowed average.

Jenny deHay has scored twice and assisted on the game-winning goal against Mississippi Oct. 4 for the Louisiana State Tigers (10-4-1). The junior from Kamehameha has been playing more midfield this season after being a defender her first two seasons.

Robin Park is in her second season as assistant coach with the Pacific University women's soccer team. The Pearl City graduate had an outstanding career with the Boxers. A defender with a reputation for her never-ending tenacity, she was an All-Northwest Conference selection in 1998 and 1999. Upon graduation in 2000, Park was honored as Pacific's Outstanding Senior Female Athlete.

Quite a charge

Andrea Alfiler played in five matches, starting four, for the Philadelphia Charge this past summer and will report in February for a second season with the Women's United Soccer Association team.

"It was really exciting. It was pretty much a bummer we lost in the semifinals, but I'm going back next year. I'm going to give it another go," Alfiler said from her Kauai home.

Cut just before the season began, she returned to Azusa Pacific, got her degree, then was recalled by the Charge.

"Being released was a disappointment, but it worked out for the best. It was a huge blessing," said Alfiler who played both outside defender positions.

"Kauai is a great place to relax and evaluate everything that has been going on. I'm keeping my fitness base running the mountains and surfing every day. I'm making goals for myself and getting mentally prepared for next season."

Alfiler now knows how the pro soccer business works and thinks that will be an advantage next year. She'll head to California in December to start serious training.

Still kicking

Zach Scott has signed a contract to play indoor soccer for the Cleveland Force of the Major Indoor Soccer League this winter. Scott, from Maui High School, played for the Seattle Sounders in the A-League this past summer after finishing his college career at Gonzaga.

The call came

Allison Lipsher and Mariko Strickland have been invited to participate with their Region IV team in the Fall Interregional Tournament in Cocoa, Fla., Nov. 28 to Dec. 3. Lipsher, a goalkeeper and Punahou student, is on the Under-17 team. Strickland, a student at Mid-Pacific and a center midfielder, is a U16 team member.
