What qualifies you to be a state senator?

I know and love Hawaii and think our people deserve a viable two-party system of government. I have the desire, knowledge, and dedication to be an honest hard-working legislator.

How would you improve Hawaii's public schools, and how would you pay for it?

Charter schools despite harassment by the BOE/DOE have proved that locally governed schools work. I support seven local school districts, more charter schools, eliminating most of the top-heavy DOE and redeployment of money and resources to the classrooms where the students and teachers are.

What should be done to improve Hawaii's business climate?

Reduce taxes, cut time and money consuming needless regulations, reform Hawaii's prepaid health act that even state government circumvents, eliminate the "old boy" network that favors political insiders at the expense of the economy.

I served four years in the House of Representatives. During that period, I worked diligently with community groups. I have lived in this district for many years and have demonstrated leadership, effective legislative skills and experience in community networking. All legislators need to demonstrate leadership and accountability for the schools. The recent restructuring of the DOE into 15 complex areas provides an opportunity to collaborate with the BOE, the DOE and each complex area community to support already identified educational priorities. ...

What should be done to improve Hawaii's business climate?

This is the 21st century. It's time for government to grow up and embrace business, not as children to be constantly supervised, but as vital partners in the success of our economy and our state. This will require legislators to sincerely listen to business owners. ...
