State to take action on Hirono sign posting

The state Department of Agriculture says it will take "appropriate action" against an employee who was seen putting up campaign signs for Democratic candidates Mazie Hirono and Matt Matsunaga with a state truck during work hours.

"Yes it was our truck and we did call in the employee and we did determine that he was not at his appropriate work site and that he used poor judgment," said Letitia Uyehara, deputy agriculture director.

A caller to KSSK radio saw the man putting up the signs Thursday morning and phoned the radio station with the license number of the truck. KSSK forwarded the information to the state.

Uyehara said the man apparently saw his friend putting up signs in Keolu Hills and stopped to help.

The Department of Agriculture hopes to finish its investigation of the incident by Monday. Uyehara said they will review the union contract, and consult with the personnel officials and the Attorney General to determine what the appropriate penalty will be.

Family members have not commented on the indictments but have said that they did no wrong.
