Oahu churches offer
trick-or-treat alternatives


Some Oahu churches will offer children a sanctuary from the scary Thursday with alternatives to the Halloween trick-or-treat tradition.

>> Unity Church of Honolulu preschool, 3608 Diamond Head Circle, will sponsor "Keiki Halloween Fair" from 4 to 7 p.m.

>> Word of Life Christian Center, 544 Queen St., will be the scene of the "Kakaako Block Party" from 7 to 10 p.m. with live entertainment, talent contest, games and inflatable rides for youngsters. Free parking at Queen and South streets.

>> Gospel Lighthouse, 91-743 Pohakupuna Road, Ewa Beach, will sponsor a family night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with game booths, pie-eating contest, chili-making contest and a costume contest. No scary costumes are allowed.

>> Hope Chapel Kaneohe Bay, 45-815 Pookela St., Kaneohe. A fun house will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. with pumpkin-carving competition, costume contests, door prizes and treats. Cost $5 per child or youth, adults admitted free.

>> Calvary Chapel Honolulu, 1190 Nuuanu Ave. The annual Family Fun Night opens at 6:30 p.m. No scary costumes.

>> Kailua Church of Christ, 400 Maluniu Ave., will hold a free Keiki Carnival from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with rides, games, prizes and treats.
