Churches raising funds
with holiday isle shopping

Star-Bulletin staff

Churches around the island use the pre-Christmas shopping season as an opportunity to raise money for ministries. Next Saturday looks like a day for shoppers to hit the road:

>> Holy Nativity Thrift Shop, 5286 Kalanianaole Highway, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Special art, jewelry and giftware donated throughout the year were held for this event. Silent auction bids will be followed by a live auction at 11 a.m.

Food items will include Portuguese soup by the quart or gallon by Kristy's Kitchen Caterers and Jan Bond's jams, jellies and chutney.

>> Pearl City Hongwanji Mission, 858 2nd St., 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Knitted and crocheted stitchery, craft items, plants and produce will be sold, as well as jam, pickled vegetables, sushi and baked goods.

>> First Presbyterian Church, 1822 Keeaumoku St., 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Designer clothing, Thanksgiving and Christmas crafts, books and homemade jams and baked goods are on the menu, as well as a silent auction of selected treasures.

>> Manoa Valley Church, 2728 Huapala St., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Barbecue chicken, noodles, hamburgers and chili will sustain shoppers browsing in booths of crafts, clothing, books, produce and plants.

>> Community Church of Honolulu, 2345 Nuuanu Ave., 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Christmas wreaths, clothespin dolls and jewelry are offered, as well as the creations of bakers, jelly makers and cooks.
