Pepper award is
nothing to sneeze at

HONOR ROLL: Bret Bollinger, Kaleo Wassman and Yesod Williams -- better known as the dub-rock band Pepper -- walked away with "Best World Music" honors at the 2002 San Diego Music Awards on Tuesday.

Now living in San Diego, Pepper continues to tour in support of their latest album, "Kona Town," after playing the Vans Warped Tour over the summer and traveling to France, Germany and Spain last month. The guys will be back on Oahu Nov. 10 to perform at the Vans Triple Crown Surf Fest at Kualoa Ranch. Check out www.pepperlive.com for more about the band. ...

HONOR ROLL PART 2: It's been at least 10 years since I last bought a pack of baseball cards, but former Hawaii resident Ginni Ramos and Bench Warmer Trading Cards just might get me back into collecting. Ramos is featured on card number 21 of the 100-card set, along with lovely ladies like Traci Bingham, Cindy Margolis and Gena Lee Nolin. Visit www.benchwarmer.com to learn more about the set.

"I kind of stumbled upon it," Ramos said earlier this week about her chance to be on a trading card. "I happened to be at a photo shoot picking up some CDs ... and the owner of the company was there and asked me if I wanted to be in it. I got really lucky."

Before moving to Santa Monica, Calif., two years ago in hopes of jump-starting an acting career, Ramos made a name for herself here as one of the Kiss Me Aloha Girls. She's also worked as a Bud Girl and danced for the now-defunct Hawaii Hammerheads. You might have also noticed her in the movie "The Fast and the Furious."

And don't think this beauty is lacking between the ears, either: Ramos graduated from Punahou in 1991 before getting her degree at UH-Manoa and starting an Internet business selling aloha wear to customers around the world. ...

TOMORROW NIGHT, pack a picnic dinner and head over to the Kapiolani Park Bandstand for the final "ASTON Hawaii Full Moon Concert" of 2002. Starting at 6:30 p.m., this free concert will feature the music of IMUA, Na Leo Pilimehana and Sean Na'auao from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. It sure beats having to pay upwards of $20 just to see one of these acts play in a concert setting, so why not stop by and get the weekend off to a good start? Call 225-4283 for more info. ...
