These community members are headed to "jail," charged with "having extremely generous hearts and being exceptionally supportive of the MDA-Hawaii," the organization said.
The participants have agreed to network in the community to raise their bail, which will be used to support programs sponsored by MDA-Hawaii.
"MDA deputies" will show up at the residents' work places at an agreed time, handcuff them and take them to the Big City Diner, which is sponsoring the event.
The "jailbirds" will be fed the restaurant's "jailhouse grub" and have an hour to call friends and associates to assist with their bail.
All participants have had the opportunity to raise bail for weeks prior to the event.
Funds raised will be used to send muscular dystrophy clients to summer camp the last week of June at Camp Erdman on Oahu's North Shore; assist families with wheelchair purchases and repairs; and finance clinics and support groups for residents who have one of 43 neuromuscular diseases covered by the association.
They include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease; spinal muscular atrophy; and Duchenne's disease.
The theme of this year's Kailua's Lock-Up is "Trick or Treat for MDA Today."
