Islanders host event for fans

The Hawaiian Islanders arenafootball2 team is hosting "You're in the Game Experience" on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Kalaeloa Park at Barbers Point.

Islanders general manager Chris Dey calls it a fanfest with interactive games and a time for youth football parents and players to meet Islanders players and staff.

The program is open to the public. There will be an agility course, targets to test throwing accuracy, a broad jump contest, a 20-yard dash and a shuttle run.

For more information, call 532-7362 and ask for Marci Joy or press the football operations ext. 23 after hours.

Division II top performers

Mikael Maata, Hawaii Pacific tennis: The two-time All-American avenged last year's loss to Erik Sandblom in the finals of the Dillingham Grand Prix last week. Maata beat Sandblom, a former HPU standout and two-time champion of the tournament, 6-2, 6-2.

Chun Yi Lin, Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball: The freshman from Pingtune, Taiwan, was named the PacWest Player of the Week for the third time this year, burying Hawaii Pacific twice with 34 kills and improving her hitting percentage to .487, which is the best in the nation.

Steve Soelberg, Brigham Young-Hawaii cross country: Soelberg was the seventh-fastest runner at the Hawaii Pacific Invitational last weekend, but he finished first in the BYUH record books.

Soelberg ran the 10K in 34:15, eight seconds better than Kyle Briggs' record time at last year's NCAA Division II regional.
