Love him, love his tree. Chuck White and other eligible bachelors line up Saturday for "Trunks for Hunks," an auctioning of single men to benefit The Outdoor Circle. Each potential "date" comes with his own package of goodies for a fun night out. Ladies, White could be your knight. See below for more information on him and on other good sports donating their time for a worthwhile cause.

What's your criterion for the perfect man? How 'bout a guy who loves the outdoors, enjoys sunset walks on the beach and who'd never turn down an opportunity to hug a tree?

Well, there'll be nine of them -- including a fireman and a couple of pilots -- ready and waiting to serve the highest bidders when The Outdoor Circle celebrates 90 years of saving trees by auctioning off some of Hawaii's available bachelors in an event dubbed "Tree Trunks for Hunks."

Funds raised will go toward the nonprofit group's efforts to keep Hawaii "clean, green and beautiful."

The event takes place Saturday in the Sheraton Moana Surfrider's main ballroom, beginning with no-host cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The bachelor auction will begin at 8:15 p.m.

The highest bidders will then proceed to be wined and dined by the "hunky bachelors," who come with their own date package of goodies to bestow on the lucky winners.

Prizes in the packages include offerings such as dinner and brunch certificates, a round of golf, a one-hour flight lesson, a party for 20 at the Dole Plantation maze, a home-cooked meal for four at your place, a half-day surfing lesson, movie passes for 12, and an opportunity to be a KUMU 1500 DJ for one hour.

Tickets are $125 per person, available by calling 593-0300.

The Outdoor Circle was established in 1912, with 30 members. Membership has since grown to more than 3,500.

The group continues to focus on land-use planning, keeping Hawaii through landscaping and planting, advocating underground wiring and acting as watchdogs for sign and billboard control.

The Outdoor Circle's achievements over the years include establishing the hibiscus as the territory's flower in 1926, founding the Hawaii Nature Center (formerly the Makiki Environmental Education Center), helping to restore Kauai after Hurricane Iniki, and forming Hawaii's Environmental Coalition for effective legislation for the preservation of Hawaii's outdoors.
