Fire won’t fry
Fish concert

WHILE DIE-HARD FANS of ska band Reel Big Fish were out buying concert tickets here Saturday morning, band members were lucky to be alive in Missouri after escaping a fire on their tour bus while they were asleep inside.

According to the Associated Press, Aaron Barrett, Carlos De La Garza, Tyler Jones, Scott Klopfenstein, Dan Regan and Matt Wong were sleeping along with three crew members when things started getting heated on the bus. The band's driver (who had stopped for coffee) saved their lives when, as Jones described it, "He was nice enough to come in and say, 'Get off the bus, or you will all die.'"

Tickets for the Nov. 17 show are $17.50, and fellow Warped Tour veterans Go Jimmy Go are scheduled to open once again, just as they did the last time Reel Big Fish played Honolulu back in 1999. ...

HOKU AWARD-winning artist, songwriter and producer Sean Na'auao has been a fixture in the local Hawaiian music scene for over a decade, but it hasn't stopped him from growing creatively and trying new things. Na'auao's album "Holomua," which was released along with "Progressions" last year, is his first release performed entirely in Hawaiian.

Na'auao will be joined by Keolalaulani Halau 'Olapa o Laka and Kuhai Halau Kawaikapuokalani Pa 'Olapa Kahiko on Friday when he performs at the Hawaii Theatre. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $30 (plus a $2 restoration fee) with discounts available for students, military, seniors and HTC members. Call 528-0506 for more info. ...

CAN'T AFFORD to spend a lot this weekend, but still want to check out Na'auao and other top local acts? Head over to the corner of Farrington Highway and Fort Barrette Road for this year's Kapolei Carnival. Koa'uka and Three Plus headline things on Friday, Baba B and Ho'onua on Saturday, and Na'auao joins Keahiwai to finish up things on Sunday.

Admission and parking is free all weekend, and there are $15 wristbands good for unlimited rides on the E.K. Fernandez midway of rides from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. ...

AND A BELATED happy birthday goes out to Sisters in Sound DJs Marloca and Zita, who celebrated Friday night at Indigo. It was ladies' night in the Opium Den, while the "Sessions" crew held things down in the Green Room. ...
