Keoni Daog rushed for 150 yards as Hilo beat Hawaii Prep yesterday to remain in first place in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation. Hilo holds on to first place
with 15-14 win over HPAStar-Bulletin staff
The Vikings (6-0) play Kealakehe (5-1), which beat Honokaa 26-0 on Friday, for the first-round title next week.
Hawaii Prep (4-2), which got 230 rushing yards on 32 carries from Brad Lau, had a 14-7 lead at halftime. But Daog scored a touchdown and 2-point conversion in the fourth quarter.
"It was a close game, we didn't come through," HPA coach Tom Goodspeed said. "We had them, but they ended up on top. They had a nice drive and scored and just barely got the 2-point conversion."
A bright spot for Ka Makani was Lau, who now has 1,135 yards for the season.
"It was a solid performance behind a strong offensive line," Goodspeed said.
