Herbert Hidesuke Akamine, 86, of Honolulu, a dentist and a former employee of the Veterans Administration, died Saturday in Kuakini Geriatric Care Inc. He also was a former inspector for the state Department of Health and a member of the Medical Detachment of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by wife Nancy; son Stephen; daughters Suzanne Uratani and Shari Argyropoulos; brothers Michael, Dr. Ralph and Richard; sisters Jessie Varble and Marion Akamine; and four grandchildren.
