Seasiders drop 3 spots
in AVCA Division II poll


Brigham Young-Hawaii dropped three spots in the AVCA Division II volleyball poll.

The Seasiders (12-1), who lost their first match Friday to Hawaii-Hilo, fell to No. 5 and didn't receive any first-place votes for the first time this season.

BYUH plays No. 24 Hawaii Pacific in two Pacific West Conference matches this weekend -- Friday in Laie and Saturday in Honolulu.

Cal State San Bernardino (17-0) retained the No. 1 spot.

Sea Warriors beat Silverswords: HPU remained undefeated in the PacWest, beating Chaminade 30-26, 30-23, 30-26 last night at the Blaisdell Center.

The Sea Warriors improved to 4-0 in the conference (9-3 overall) and opened up a full game lead over 3-1 BYUH.

The Silverswords dropped to 3-2 in the PacWest and 9-3 overall and will travel to Hilo to take on the Vulcans this weekend.

UH men tie for 11th, Wahine 12th in golf

The Hawaii men's golf team placed 11th and the Rainbow Wahine team finished 12th in tournaments yesterday.

The men shot a three-round total of 881 and tied with Wyoming in the 15-team Wolf Pack Classic in Nevada. Host Nevada won the title at 851.

Kellen-Floyd Asao was UH's top finisher, in fourth place. He shot a final-round 67 for a 7-under-par 209 total.

The UHwomen shot a 36-hole total of 643 in the 16-team Heather Farr Memorial Tournament in Colorado. Denver won the team title at 603.

Billfish tournament announces dates

Dates for next year's 44th Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament and HIBT Pro-Am in Kailua-Kona were announced yesterday.

The HIBT Pro-Am is set for Aug. 11-15, with the HIBT scheduled for Aug. 16-23.

UH swimming, diving opens season Friday

The Hawaii swimming and diving team opens its season in the Senior Circuit at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex Friday at 6 p.m.

The first official meet is Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. against University of the Pacific at the Kahanamoku complex.

Kim wins one and loses one

Wahiawa's Bev Kim won her second-round match, but lost in the third round yesterday in the USGASenior Women's Amateur in Southern Pines, N.C.

Kim defeated Chris Spivey of Alabama 1 up in the morning before losing to Taffy Brower of Florida 4 and 2 in the afternoon.

Three-time defending champion Carol Semple Thompson won two matches -- a record 20th and 21st in a row --to advance to the quarterfinals.
