Italian films in spotlight
The Art House at Restaurant Row and the Friends of Italy Society of Hawaii will host an Italian Film Fest Friday through Oct. 17.
A 5 to 6:45 p.m. reception at Sunset Grill will open the event, with bruschetta, salmon with capers, New York strip steak with kiawe-grilled vegetables and more. The cost is $25.
There will also be an antipasti/ biscotti/ gelati reception at the Art House from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free with your theater ticket.
Also, show your ticket at Meritage, the new Italian/French restaurant at the Row, for 10 percent off entrées throughout the festival.
Films to be presented:
"Marcello Mastroianni: I Remember": A humorous and self-deprecating look at the life of the Italian film icon in his own words. Screens at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
"Italian for Beginners": Six people leading banal lives meet through an Italian class in a rainy Danish town and begin to reveal themselves and their problems to each other. Screens 11:30 a.m., 4:30 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 2 and 7 p.m. Tuesday and Oct. 17.
"The Turandot Project": Puccini's opera is staged in its original setting in the Forbidden City of Beijing. This work features the combined talents of conductor Zubin Mehta and director Zhang Yimou. Screens 4:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Sunday; 4:30 and 9:30 p.m. Monday; and 2 p.m. Oct. 16.
"Rocco and His Brothers (Rocco e i suoi Fratelli)": Screens 12:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and 7 p.m. Wednesday.
"The Son's Room (La Stanza del Figlio)": Palme D'Or winner tells of a once-happy family coming to terms with a devastating loss. Screens 11:30 a.m., 4:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and Oct. 17.
"Pizzicata": During World War II, a family attempts to hide an Italian-American pilot shot down in a surveillance plane. Screens 7 p.m. Monday; and 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Oct. 16.
