Hilo gives No. 2 BYUH

KAMUELA, Hawaii >> Hawaii-Hilo upset No. 2 Brigham Young-Hawaii 30-21, 20-30, 35-33, 21-30, 15-12 last night in a Pacific West Conference volleyball match.Hilo, which had double-digit kills from Sara Pilgreen (20), Cheriesse Shiroma (16), Tiffanie Ollison (13) and Emily Hutchinson (12), handed the Seasiders their first loss of the season.
The Seasiders, who were led by Yu Chuan Weng's 30 kills and Chun Yi Lin's 20, blew an 18-12 lead in the third game.
BYUH fell to 12-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while Hilo improved to 6-10 and 2-3.
Seasiders rolling on tennis court: BYUH won all of its tennis matches yesterday at the ITA West Regional Tournament in Pomona, Calif.
Top-seeded Jan Krejci beat Sonoma State's Mike Morrison 6-2, 3-0. Morrison retired with an injury in the second set.
Krejci then reached the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Paul Dilloway of UC Davis.
No. 2 seed Peter Madarassy made it two Seasiders in the semis by winning twice -- losing just nine games in four sets.
Krejci and Madarassy then teamed up to reach the doubles finals by routing Bryan Swatt and Sean Neagle 8-0. The BYUH team meets Greg Lee and Dilloway in the final.
Adrienn Hegedus and Amy Sun had an even easier time in the women's bracket. They each won two matches -- losing only six games combined -- to reach the semifinals. Hegedus beat Sun in last year's regional final.
Hegedus and Sun also advanced to the semis in doubles.
Metzger, Wong in Brazil semifinals
Punahou graduates Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong won three times yesterday to reach the semifinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event at Fortaleza, Brazil.Metzger and Wong beat the sixth-seeded team from Switzerland and the No. 3 team from Brazil.
