RUTH MUN
Garments by Ruth Mun, fashioned from vintage and collectible kimono, will be shown during Hui Makaala's 33rd annual fashion show Oct. 20.

Clothes that flow

California designer Ruth Mun will demonstrate her kimono artistry during Hui Makaala's 33rd annual Scholarship Fund Luncheon and Fashion Show, taking place Oct. 20 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hawaii Ballroom.

Mun was born in Honolulu and graduated from the University of Hawaii before moving to California and focusing her attention on Silken Treasures of Asia. Her designs are meant to flow in unison with the body's silhouette.

Mun's "Kimono Artistry" collection, created from vintage and collectible silk kimonos, will be shown during the 1 p.m. show. The event starts with 9 a.m. boutique sales, followed by lunch at noon with entertainment and door prizes.

Tickets are $45, available by contacting Ethel Kishimoto at 521-3106.

Face finery

Some of the finest European and mainland bed, bath and home products are now available in Honolulu with the opening of McQuaid's Fine Living in Ward Warehouse.

McQuaid's features items ranging from hand-embroidered linens to the purest soaps, beauty creams and custom-blended cosmetics.

McQuaid's initially built a name for itself through its first store in the Waikiki Landmark. The new store will build upon that following, offering a wider array of cosmetics from such elite names as Diptyque, L'Occitane, and Italy's exclusive Santa Maria Novella body products created by Franciscan monks.

3C cosmetics is one of the hottest lines to come out of New York, and is available only at McQuaid's Ward Warehouse location according to store founder Eileen Dervisevic.

One of the highlights will be 3C's color matching and custom-blending service. Say you want to duplicate a favorite lipstick or eye shadow color that's been discontinued, or match your cosmetics to a holiday dress -- your leftover lipstick tube or fabric swatch will be sent to New York to create a duplicate product or perfectly matched cosmetics mailed direct to your home.

The cost is the same as buying the any of 3C's cosmetics, such as $14.50 for a lip pencil, $17.50 for lipstick, $16.50 for lip gloss, $18.50 for eye shadow or $21.50 for concealer.
