Beatles film gets
deluxe treatment
The music, imagery and excitement surrounding the Beatles' early years was due, in large part, to their fabulous film debut in "A Hard Day's Night." The groundbreaking movie from director Richard Lester gets the deluxe treatment in this special-edition two-disc set, which includes the digitally transferred movie from the restored original 35 mm negative and a second disc with rare and new footage.
(Miramax Home Entertainment, 2-disc set, $29.98) 'A Hard Day's Night'
The VHS copy, listed at $14.99, includes a new half-hour promotional special about the film, called "Things They Said Today."
That special is part of the bonus disc "Give Me Everything! -- A Companion Anthology to the Beatles' First Film," as well as interviews with most of the surviving cast and crew, and close friends of the Fab Four. Two of the main men interviewed are, of course, director Lester (who brought his quick-cut-and-pace commercial skills to the movie, making the case of his being the originator of the music video) and music director Sir George Martin.
DVD ROM features include the reproduction of the entire first draft of the screenplay, a photo scrapbook and reunion roundtables with the cast, production crew and post-production crew.
