Seasiders up to No. 2

The Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball team moved up to No. 2 in this week's AVCA Division II poll.

The Seasiders lost their first game of the season last week -- downing No. 16 Cal State-Los Angeles in five games -- and won two matches.

BYUH received only three first-place votes (compared to eight last week), but got 55 more votes to move up a spot in the poll.

The Seasiders face only Pacific West Conference teams the rest of the season, with just one of those teams ranked (No. 24 Hawaii Pacific).

Vulcans fall in 5: At Hilo, Hawaii-Hilo squandered a two-games-to-none lead to fall to Western New Mexico 22-30, 27-30, 30-23, 31-29, 15-11 last night, despite 35 kills from Sara Pilgreen.

The Vulcans fell to 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the Pacific West Conference.

Idaho's Nicole Keller was the top individual scorer, with a 2-under-par 214, four strokes ahead of Cal's Vikki Laing.
