Registration forms are available at local Subway shops for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's third annual Light the Night Walks Sept. 20 on Maui and Oct. 27 in Honolulu.

The nationwide event commemorates and celebrates lives touched by cancer.

The Honolulu walk begins with registration at 3 p.m. at Ala Moana Beach Park; the walk begins at 6:30 p.m. A pre-walk celebration will be held at McCoy Pavilion, featuring music from Thick Tubes and food provided by Outback Steakhouse to the first 1,000 participants.

Participants will carry illuminated red and white balloons along the 2.5-mile course. Cancer survivors will hold white balloons and other participants red balloons.

Anne Neal, campaign coordinator, urges participants to recruit family, friends and colleagues for the walk.

Funds raised through contributions will support the society's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life for patients and families.

Families and companies are invited to form teams, but individual walkers are welcome. There is no registration fee, but those raising $25 or more will carry the illuminated balloons.

Banners will be displayed for participants to place a name or message in honor or memory of a family member or friend with cancer. Prizes will be awarded to participants based on their fund-raising efforts.

For more information, contact the society's Hawaii office at 534-1222.
