the best therapyOptimism springs eternal in the cafeteria at Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School. The younger the better.
My mother-in-law, Jane, took my son and daughter to breakfast there one morning recently. She is going through chemotherapy for lung cancer and was feeling pretty good that day. As a precaution, she sometimes wears a surgical mask to keep out dust and germs.
She was wearing it as one of Zack's friends sat down to join them. Roland kept looking at Jane with that wonderful, inquisitive look second-graders get. Finally, he says to Zack, "I didn't know your grammy was a doctor."
She's a Realtor and felt much better, thanks to Roland's cheerful outlook.
