Kuakini offers series
of support groups

Kuakini Medical Center offers a series of support groups, screenings and patient education classes, including:

>> A prostate cancer support group, Us Too, that meets at 7 p.m. every second Wednesday in the hospital's PB No. 5 classroom.

The free meetings are cosponsored by Kuakini and the American Cancer Society. Call 547-9566 for more information.

>> Lung Disorder Hui, a free support group sponsored by Kuakini and the American Lung Association for people with emphysema, asthma or chronic bronchitis.

The group meets the fourth Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon at the Harris United Methodist Church on Vineyard Boulevard. Call 547-9532 for more information.

>> Breast Cancer Education and Support Group, meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. the last Wednesday every month in Kuakini's PB No. 4 classroom.

The free, private meetings allow to share experiences and ask questions. To register or get more information, call 547-9189.

>> Bariatric Support Group, meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. every second Friday of the month in PB No. 5 classroom.

This is a surgical treatment designed to save lives of morbidly obese people. Call 547-9252 for more information.

>> Diabetes Screening and Diabetic Management patient education classes, taught by a registered dietitian and nurse practitioner for newly diagnosed diabetics who need extra help controlling their blood glucose.

Sessions cost $10 and are private and individualized. Appointments are necessary. Call 547-9153.

>> Colorectal Cancer Screening is offered with colorectal cancer education, risk assessment and fecal occult blood testing.
