Symphony in top form
at La PietraThe Honolulu Symphony was in top form for its Music of Italy outdoor concert Sunday at La Pietra. Guests, many enjoying picnic dinners, applauded the orchestra and vocals by Vicky Gorman and surprise guest Jimmy Borges. Vicky's rendition of "Musetta's Waltz" from "La Boheme" was a beaut. Jimmy was at Symphony Board President Carolyn Berry's party, with food by her chef Nick Sayada. Jimmy sang "Our Love Is Here to Stay" ballad-style and then changed gears and started swinging it. The band was groovin' right along under the baton of Stuart Chavetz to the Angel Pena arrangement. Carolyn's birthday was Aug. 1 and she was serenaded with "Happy Birthday." Also marking a birthday was former La Pietra development director Judy Muncaster who now heads Ballet Hawaii ...
Who was that guy?
AT the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic, some UH volleyball fans wondered how one of UCLA's assistant coaches knew the words to "Hawaii Pono'i" as he sang along with the crowd. He's a local boy, 1997 Kamehameha grad Lindsey Breeden, part of the musical Chillingworth family and a volunteer assistant coach for the Bruins' women's volleyball team. Not a bad spot for a tall, handsome, single 23-year-old. Don Ho's name often pops up in movies and TV sitcoms. His latest mention came in "Serving Sara" and involved a burly process-server wearing an aloha shirt in Miami. Don was linked to the Hawaiian shirt in a casual remark. Cedric the Entertainer is a riot in the picture, Matthew Perry is OK and Elizabeth Hurley looks gorgeous in this often slapstick picture that barely makes it ...

Honors for Moe Keale
The late Moe Keale will be Sheraton Waikiki's first inductee into its Music Hall of Fame. Moe, who died April 15 at 62, is a fine choice. The singer-actor-musician had a 40-year career and was one of the really nice guys in the entertainment industry. The induction ceremony will be held Sept. 26, 11 a.m. in the hotel lobby, where his portrait will be unveiled. The Honolulu Skylark will emcee a program that will include Sheraton Waikiki boss William Hurley and Moe's widow, Carol. Moe's son, Nalani, Bill Kaiwa, Nalani Olds and Moe's musicians Mel Amina, Analu Aina and Kalani Kapau will perform ...
