THIS WEEKEND MARKS the official start of the 2002 Aloha Festivals in Waikiki; opening ceremonies are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday at Iolani Palace. Traditional Hawaiian chant and hula performances will help to introduce this year's Royal Court to the general public.
On Saturday the party moves to Bishop Street for this year's Downtown Ho'olaulea, which features six entertainment stages stretching from Aloha Tower Marketplace to Bishop Square and beyond. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the Ho'olaulea and enjoy various ethnic performances, food booths and live musical entertainment.
