Yamamoto tops field
for OCC seniors

The Oahu Country Club Senior Men's Invitational golf tournament is set for Sept. 16, beginning at 7 a.m., at the OCC course.

Eighty players, including two-time defending champion George Yamamoto, are entered in the two-day competition.

Yamamoto will be joined in the tournament by former Manoa Cup champions Dick Sieradzki and Art Fujita. Other top seniors expected to compete are David Ishikawa, Wendell Kop, Mervin Matsumoto, Mike Foster and Bob Amonn.

There will be two divisions: senior (55-64 years old) and super senior (65-plus) and scoring will be on a net and gross basis. The golfer with the low 36-hole gross score will be declared the champion.

Turtle Bay tournament right around the corner

The $1.5 million Turtle Bay Championship will be held from Oct. 4-6 at the Palmer Course of the Turtle Bay Resorts.

Hale Irwin will return to defend his title in the 54-hole tournament. He will be joined by, among others, Bob Gilder, Bruce Fleisher, Jim Thorpe, Dana Quigley, Bobby Wadkins, Allen Doyle, John Jacobs, Hubert Green, Don Pooley, Isao Aoki, Gary McCord and J.C. Snead.

Tickets are $10 per day or $20 for a three-day pass.
