What qualifies you to be a state senator?

I know and love Hawaii and think our people deserve a viable two-party system of government. I have the desire, knowledge, and dedication to be an honest hard-working legislator.

What is the most pressing issue facing your district and what would you do about it?

The 25th Senatorial District faces the same challenges of most other districts. I want to nurture a better economy, implement systemic reform of our education system and make sure public infrastructure in the 25th Senatorial District is the best it can be.

What is the best way to stimulate the state's economy?

We know through sad experience that high taxes, excessive regulations and government malfeasance have contributed to Hawaii's economic malaise. The economy of Hawaii will be improved by cutting taxes, especially the regressive taxes on food and medical service, cutting overregulation and county state duplication ...

What qualifies you to be a state senator?

I served four years in the House of Representatives. During that period, I worked diligently with community groups. I have lived in this district for many years and have demonstrated leadership, effective legislative skills and experience in community networking. I am looking forward to serving this ... diverse ... new senatorial district.

What is the most pressing issue facing your district and what would you do about it?

Our district cares deeply about improving our schools. I plan to work collaboratively with our district's complex area superintendent to provide legislative support for the identified priorities in the Kaiser, Kailua and Kalaheo High School complexes. I will commit time, energy and leadership to ensure that education is a priority.

What is the best way to stimulate the state's economy?

Short term: Expand enterprise zones to provide tax incentives for more businesses such as call centers and disease-management services. Long-term: Promote Hawaii as a destination that is a healthy, safe place to visit with clean water, clean air ...
