at same time

Star-Bulletin staff

The University of Hawaii College of Education is offering neighbor island teachers an opportunity to enroll in two programs to obtain a teaching certificate and a master's in special education.

Both programs have been offered in the past on one island at a time. But for the first time they will be available simultaneously statewide, thanks to distance education programs through the Internet and condensed weekend instruction.

Public information meetings will be held today to next Friday.

Student travel is required about three weekends per semester.

Air travel and accommodations will be provided to students traveling interisland. Access to a computer and the Internet are required. Priority admission will be granted to applicants without access to other licenser programs.

Contact the Office of Student Advising Services at 808-956-7849 for applications for the certification program, and 808-956-7956 for the special-education admission information. Prospective students should apply immediately.

The public information meetings schedule follows:

>> Kauai, today, 5:30 p.m., Kauai Community College, LRC 130.
>> Maui, next Friday, 5:30 p.m., Maui Community College, Kaaike 105, C/D.
