tryan@starbulletin.comDawson, who has appeared in "Josie and the Pussycats," "Men in Black II" and "The Adventures of Pluto Nash," joins Seann William Scott and Christopher Walken in the cast. The film will be directed by Peter Berg.
Scott portrays Travis, a young man from a powerful family who goes off in search of a gold mine in the Amazon, only to be retrieved by a mercenary named Beck (The Rock) who is hired by Travis' father. Despite their hostility and their love for the same woman (Dawson's character), the two must join forces to fight against the head of a gold-mining corporation (Walken) who is also after the treasure.
Dawson plays Carmen, a pilot and guide who ends up joining Travis and Beck on their adventure. Dawson will come to the Hawaii production after she finishes filming Lions Gate Films' "Shattered Glass," currently shooting in Montreal.
Filming is set to begin Sept. 20 and likely will last four weeks. The production has set up offices at the Ilikai Hotel.
In other "Rock"-related news, screenwriter Greg Poirier says he has completed an "unofficial internal draft" of the "Kamehameha" script, which he hopes to show possible director Rob Cohen on Maui next week.
The Rock will star in Columbia's "Kamehameha," and Cohen, a part-time Maui resident, is in negotiations with the studio to direct the historical epic described as a kind of Polynesian "Braveheart."
Cohen just had back-to-back hits with Vin Diesel on "The Fast and the Furious" and "XXX."
Jon Shestack is producing "Kamehameha" with Neal Moritz and Marty Adelstein. Cohen has already contracted to do a "XXX" sequel with Diesel.
Poirier said once Cohen signs on, the studio will give the go-ahead to begin pre-production, which he said may begin in December for a March or April start date.
