Fund-raisers on 3
islands aid annual
MD telethon

Oahu, Maui and Big Island
firefighters will collect donations

Events will be held on three islands today through Monday to raise money to fight muscular dystrophy.

The annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon will be televised on Monday from Windward Mall and Kahala Mall.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., entertainment will be provided and community volunteers will assist with fund-raising efforts at the two sites. The locally televised event will run in conjunction with the 37-year-old national telethon.

Firefighters on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island will be holding "Fill the Boot" collections today through Monday at various locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Oahu collection sites are:

>> Today: Corner of King and Bishop streets in downtown Honolulu.
>> Tomorrow: Corner of Likelike and Kamehameha highways fronting First Hawaiian Bank in Kaneohe.
>> Sunday: Corner of Waimano Home Road and Kamehameha Highway fronting First Hawaiian Bank in Pearl City.

Maui collection sites are:

>> Today: Costco in Kahului.
>> Today, tomorrow and Sunday: Maui Mall, Wal-Mart Kahului, Safeway at Piilani Shopping Center, Longs Drugs in Kihei and Lahaina, Maui Market Place in Kahului.

Big Island collection sites are:

>> Sunday: Wal-Mart in Kona.
>> Monday: Wal-Mart in Hilo.
