BYOB, and
a lime wedgeCome Monday -- Labor Day -- the folks at the Fine Living cable channel will switch its viewers' regular programming with a "Day of Nothing."
Except that for those concerned about tourism to Hawaii, it won't be nothing at all. Not in the least.
For its estimated 5 million mainland subscribers, Fine Living will air a 9-to-5 day of scenes from Hawaii beaches "from the vantage point of a lounge chair and umbrella," according to www.MediaLifeMagazine.com.
Footage will feature beaches such as Ala Moana and Hanauma Bay and there will be some poolside pictures at Halekulani.
"Fine Living was here, staying at the Halekulani doing several stories for its 'Castaway' series," said Joyce Matsumoto, hotel public relations director.
"They were overwhelmed with the beautiful setting of Waikiki Beach as well as the hotel, so they thought that they would share a 'Day of Nothing' with the viewer on the mainland," she said.
The site reported yesterday that in addition to the beach scenes, "tranquil words of wisdom" would crawl across the screen. For example, "Wear a pareo while vacuuming," "Take your watch off for a whole weekend," and "Be a tourist in your own hometown."
Personnel matters
KITV-TV is looking for an executive producer after Lori Silva was hired away by KHON-TV.The EP "is the person responsible for all of our newscasts," said Mike Rosenberg, KITV president and general manager, "for the look and content of our shows."
Rosenberg hopes to fill the specialized, experience-required position in the next couple weeks, as there's this little thing called an election coming up that must be covered.
Silva is to start at KHON early next month, prior to the primary, according to Rick Blangiardi, general manager for KHON and KGMB.
