The U.S. Postal Service has sold about a million Duke Kahanamoku stamps since Saturday, spokeswoman Felice Broglio said yesterday. The stamp went on sale in Honolulu first and then to the rest of the country on Monday. The post office has also sold 5,000 souvenir cachets, envelopes featuring a silk graphic designed by its Honolulu marketing office and a stamp with the first-day-of-issue cancellation. "The cachets need to be reordered," Broglio said. "They were much more popular than we thought." Carolyn Vierra purchased the stamps at the downtown post office to send her son's sixth-birthday invitations. Broglio said the Duke stamps are selling well, but the King still holds the record. The post office sold about a million Elvis stamps the first day they were issued.
