Chihuahuas and their owners took over Kauluwela School on Aala Street yesterday for the third annual Chihuahua Olympics. Dressed in his competitive and patriotic finest, Chico Mariachi waited for the dress-up relay. Looking on in the background were, from left, Zoe Anderson, of Kaimuki; Tam Anderson, of Kaimuki; and Chico's owner, Nina Lovan, of Makiki.
Finishing to a warm welcome in the running event, Twinkie ended up in the arms of owner Judy Kosaka, of Mililani.
Lara, owned by Tomomi Iwabochi, of Waikele, licked her lips before the pizza-eating event.
Curtis Uemura, of Manoa, nursed Broke. Despite having leg surgery before the event, Broke still competed.
