On the Scene
QUITE A CHEERING SECTION: From left, Tanner Henderson, Clint Sekioka and Devon Nekoba admired contestant Kaitlyn Metcalf's gown after the Miss Hawaii Teen Pageant at Mamiya Theatre on Friday. Metcalf's gal pals, from left, Diana Mills, Megan Mount and Chrissy Naruo, were more excited about the yellow "smiley face" figures that Metcalf's dad distributed. She didn't win, but Metcalf drew strong support from her fellow alumnae of "Once Upon One Kapakahi Time."
AFTER THE PAGEANT: Devon Nekoba also caught up with international recording artist Jennifer Perri, second from left, and her friends Chelsy Pate, left, and Jessica Yuhara. Nekoba emceed the combined Miss Hawaii Teen and Miss Oahu pageants Friday with a blend of subtle humor and dry wit, and should do them again next year. Perri is anticipating the upcoming release of her debut album -- and her 16th birthday.
CAN YOU SPARE SOME HAIR?: Hawaiian KINE 105 morning guy Frank B. Shaner tried the long-haired look with the assistance of Leah Bernstein of the Mountain Apple Co. They both attended a party that preceded the Makaha Sons' concert at Bishop Museum on Thursday. It's been more than a week since the Frank B. Shaner Hawaiian Falsetto Contest, and Frank is still saying that he'll never sing "Blue Darling" again.
