Vandervoort advances
to fourth round


Hawaii's Chris Vandervoort won both of his heats yesterday to advance to the fourth round of the Oxbow Longboard Championships at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, yesterday.

Vandervoort beat John Lee Ryan in the second round and Ian Bell in the third round.

Three-time Oxbow champion Rusty Keaulana of Hawaii took out Josh Baxter to make it to round three. Fellow Hawaii surfer Duane DeSoto also advanced to the third round.

Lambert, LeGrande make final four

Hawaii's Mike Lambert and Lee LeGrande reached the final four of the Chicago Men's Open beach volleyball tournament yesterday.

Hawaii's Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong won two of three matches to place ninth, while former University of Hawaii player Albert Hanneman and partner Jeff Nygaard finished seventh.

On the women's side, Danalee Bragado of Honolulu and partner Ali Wood ended up in seventh place.

Hawaii Pacific hits the QB Club

Hawaii Pacific's Tita Ahuna and Russell Dung will be speaking at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Ahuna is the volleyball coach and new Senior Women's Administrator, while Dung is taking over for Tony Sellitto as basketball head coach and athletic director.

Oahu Interscholastic Association executive secretary Dwight Toyama and former sportswriter Jim Becker will also speak at the 11:30 a.m. luncheon at the Pagoda Restaurant.

UH single-game tickets on sale tomorrow

Hawaii football single-game tickets go on sale tomorrow at the Stan Sheriff Center and Aloha Stadium box offices.

Tickets for the general public range from $11 to $28 and are available at Aloha Stadium.

Super-rooter tickets for UH students are free for Saturday's opener against Eastern Illinois and $3 for all other home games. They're available at the SSC.
