>> AIG Hawaii Insurance Co. has hired Michelle Kim as its new senior marketing planner. She will be responsible for managing the AIG Hawaii customer loyalty program; developing and implementing new customer retention programs; overseeing all AIG Hawaii sponsored special events; and creating marketing opportunities and relationships. She has extensive experience in marketing, most recently at Aramark Corp.

>> Patrick Leonard has been named promotion manager of Honolulu Publishing Co. and its Spirit of Aloha publication. He has more than 20 years of broadcast, advertising and promotions experience, including sales and event marketing positions at Clear Channel Communications of Honolulu, KGMB 9 and New Planet Radio.

PROMOTIONS

>> Bank of Hawaii has promoted James M. Ewing to executive vice president. He is responsible for Bankoh's wholesale credit division and managing credit approval and credit administration for commercial loans and leases. He joined the bank in 1999 as vice president and manager of its Asia and South Pacific special assets department.

>> First Insurance Co. recently promoted Tony Abad to vice president with responsibility for the personal lines underwriting, customer services, auxiliary and underwriting support departments. In addition, Jeffrey Shonka was named vice president and treasurer and Stephen Tabussi vice president of customer solutions. Abad has more than 26 years of experience with the company. Shonka has 16 years of experience in the insurance industry, most recently with Amwest Insurance Group Inc. in Calabasas, Calif. Tabussi most recently managed marketing projects for the Fireman's Fund Insurance in Novato, Calif.

>> Finance Factors announced that Paul C. Santos has been named branch manager for the company's Kapiolani branch. He will be responsible for generating new loan business and managing internal and external loan sales with a focus on financial products for Hawaii's real estate industry. He served in a number of positions at Finance Factors over the past 20 years, including manager of the bank's Kaneohe branch.

>> Castle Resorts & Hotels has promoted Glen Shimabukuro to director of information systems with responsibility for the reservations system, data management and the corportate computer network. He had been director of revenue and financial analysis at Castle, which manages hotels and condominiums in Hawaii.

>> Susan M. Nixon has been named store manager at the new Starbucks Waimea and will also continue to manage the Starbucks at King's Shops at Waikoloa. She joined Starbucks' franchisee Coffee Partners Hawaii in 1999. The Parker Ranch Center shop is Starbucks' 30th in Hawaii.

>> Diedre Akahoshi has been named president of the Venture Club of Honolulu for 2002-03. Other officers are: Sherri Sakamoto, vice president; Kristl Ito, secretary; and Gale Miyashiro, treasurer. Venture Club's new directors/assistant directors are Allison Nagato/Cindy Iwata, service; Amy Leong/Kay Mukaigawa, individual development; Brandy Palau/Amy Hudson, membership; Marche' Kawai/Dee Okahara and Chanelle Akamine, public relations; and Tricia Louie/Coreen Tomita, ways and means. Cissy Shaner, member and past president, has been elected secretary of the Venture Clubs of the Americas. Tricia Louie, new director and past vice president, has been elected secretary of the Sierra Pacific Region of the Venture Clubs of the Americas.

>> The Honolulu Association of Insurance Women has elected Charlene T. Mizumoto president for the 2002-03 term. She works at IC International.

>> Jean Kim has been named president of the Korean American Bar Association of Hawaii. She is an attorney at Damon Key Leong Kupchak Hastert. Other officers for 2002-03 are vice president Sharon E. Har, treasurer Chuck C. Choi and secretary Rex K.C. Kim.

RECOGNITION

>> Elizabeth M. Parinas has been awarded the accredited buyer representative designation by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council Inc. of the National Association of Realtors. More than 24,000 real estate professionals in North America have earned the ABR designation. Parinas is with Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties' Leeward Office.

>> Freda J. Young of Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties has won her accredited buyer representative and certified residential specialist designations. Both are awarded by National Association of Realtors' affiliates based on testing and performance.
